“Hey Alex, let' see...scary swamp, checked...big open area with sniper, checked...and now we also have scary mountain path that is darker than the rest of the island!” Ray said, while kicking a rock in frustration.

Alex sighed. “Listen Ray, if all you want to do is complain, well go on...but I don't care, okay?”

Sam laughed. “I kind of agree...”

Ray snored. “Fine then, I will shut up...but I don't like this place, and I will never like it”

Alex turned around. “Do you think I'm enjoying it? No, I'm not...I hate this place too, but I don't spend my time complaining about how bad this situation is!”

Ray spat on the ground, and then walked away.

Sam sighed. “He will hate you for this, you know”

Alex smiled. “He already hates me...I have never been a social and friendly person, and I never will.”

Sam looked up, at the gray clouds above. “You look friendly enough to me Alex...you are my best friend for a reason you know”

Alex sighed, and looked at her. “Speaking of friendship...do you think that we are still only...friends? I mean...when you looked at me in front of the fire, we were about to...”

All of sudden, Sam kissed Alex on the muzzle. She smiled at him. “What do you think?”

Alex looked both confused, and scared...maybe for the first time in his life. He was about to say something, but then...Samantha kissed him again, this time more passionately than before. They kissed for quite a long time. Every second of it was like living in a dream, where everything was perfect, and nothing could go wrong.

For the first time in their lives...they understood the true meaning of love.

When they stopped kissing, they immediately noticed that Ray and Justin where staring at them. Two seconds later, they stared laughing.

“I knew it! I knew that Alex was you boyfriend, Sam” Ray managed to say.

Sam walked in front of him, and slapped him. “So what? Are you jealous?”

Ray shook his head. “Why should I? No offense here, but...I never liked you Sam”

Sam slapped him again. “Well, I don't like you either...and by the way, we all know that you're gay”

“What? Hey...that was a cheap shot” Ray said, stepping backward.

Alex was almost laughing at the whole scene. Sam was a woman that many people could fear, and for valid reason. That's why Alex liked her so much...that, and other things.

A hour later, the squad had to stop. They knew that there was only a limited amount of hours left to complete their mission, but the place was getting darker and darker, and the rain was getting heavier and heavier...they couldn't take it anymore.

They managed to find a small cave, hidden behind some bushes. There, they settled up a campfire, and decided to sleep for a while.

Ray and Justin were sleeping on one side of the cave, Alex and Samantha were sleeping on the other side...well, they were trying to sleep.

“Sam...are you awake?” Alex asked.

Sam sighed. “Yes...I can't sleep...I'm afraid someone may come and try to kill us in our sleep”

“Same here....” Alex said.

Sam turned around, and looked at him. “Don't you think that something is following us? When we reached the cave, I think I saw something on the path”

Alex laughed. “Don't worry...it's just the creature from the swamp”

Sam stared at him. “What? He followed us?”

“Since we left the area where Drek attacked us”

Sam looked at fire. “But...why you didn't...”

“Why I didn't tell you and the other two? Well, I didn't want Justin and Ray to try to kill him again...and in any case, he is not dangerous”

“How can you be so sure Alex, I mean...we don't know what it is”

Alex smiled. “If he wanted to kill us, he would have killed us when we were on the path...don't worry Sam”

He hugged her, the small flames on her feather quickly warming his body and his soul. Sam closed her eyes. “I love you”

Alex closed his eyes too. “I love you too...now sleep”

And so...they both felt asleep.

“Hey Ray...do you think they did it?” Justin asked, while looking at the still asleep Alex and Samantha.

Ray shook his head. “No...they still have their clothes on...and obviously, Samantha is still alive”

“I heard that!” Samantha said, suddenly opening her eyes.

Ray backed up. “Calm down Sam...I was joking”

“Fine...now, why don't you...what's that?”

They all turned around. There was something in front of the cave, something that looked like...a paper airplane.

Justin carefully picked it up, noticing how the paper was incredibly light. There was something written on top of it...it read:

“La mauvaise route”

Ray rubbed his ear. “Hey look...it's Latin!”

Sam sighed. “It's French you retard! It says: the wrong path”

Justin looked at her. “Since when you know how to read French? That mission in Paris?”

Sam giggled. “Well...what can I say...I liked the city a lot, and I decided to learn the language...just in case”

“Sam...we had to kill terrorists...not really my idea of good city” Justin said.

Alex suddenly stood up, and took the paper. “In any case...we need to keep moving”

Sam sighed. “At least a good morning...”

“What? Morning? We slept the whole night?” Alex said, almost panicking.

Ray laughed. “Relax Alex...we still got all the time in the world to complete our mission, the helicopter will come and get us in eleven hours”

“Ray is right Alex...and by the way, look outside” Justin said.

They all walked outside the cave. It was still raining, and the sky was still full of clouds...but the place wasn't dark anymore, and the squad could finally see the island.

A green paradise, that's what the island was. There were trees, small mountains, and hills...miles and miles of green. In the distance, the raging ocean.

Sam smiled. “So beautiful...this place doesn't look so bad”

“Yeah...I can easily...hey, what's that?” Ray said.

The whole squad looked at the  hills in the distance. To the team's surprise...there was a large building in the distance, something that looked like an abandoned factory.

Justin gulped. “We...we are on the wrong mountain?”

Alex sighed. “No...I'm afraid...there are two of them...not only one factory...but two”

The whole squad was shocked...but someone else was very happy. This someone...was standing on top of the mountain, with a paper airplane in his hand.

“The right path...” Ferator said.
