A Lucario Change
One afternoon, two friends were sitting on a bench. They were talking about something very important...
"Are you for real, Peter?" Jim asked.
Peter smiled. "Of course I am... I just got my import copy of Brawl," he said proudly.
"Man, you need to let me try it... I have been waiting forever to play that game," Jim said, barely containing his excitement.
Peter laughed. "Easy, dude. I haven't played the game yet. Just let me play it for a little bit, and then I'll give you the possibility to play it."
Jim sighed. "How cruel..."
Peter smiled. "Yeah, some people tell me that."
Jim stood up. "Well, can you at least show me the game? I won't play it, I just want to watch... pleeeeeeeeease?"
Peter sighed. "Okay fine, come with me."
"Here we are," Peter said. while opening the door of his house.
Jim started to look around. He had never been to Peter's place before, and what he saw was truly unexpected. Peter definitely liked dragons. There were a lot of dragon-related objects, such as cards, statues, posters, games, movies and so on.
"Great collection!" Jim said.
"Thanks... I spent a lot of time finding all the rarest pieces," Peter said while turning on his TV.
Jim sat down on a chair. "Compared to your dragon collection... my stamp collection looks like a joke."
Peter stopped, the Brawl CD in his hands. "Stamps?
Jim gulped. "Well... you know... I... oh, whatever. Why don't you start the damn game?"
"Huh? Oh, right... sorry, but the stamp thing was a little..."
Jim sighed. "Okay, whatever. I collect stamps... but it's just my hobby, I don't even take it seriously."
Peter turned on the console. "You *should* take it seriously... you can earn a lot of money by selling it. You always say that you don't have money."
"Hey! I don't want to sell it... and by the way, a collection is something that you do for yourself. It's not something that you want to sell," Jim said almost angrily.
Peter grabbed the controller, ready to start the game. "Okay, now shut up... the game is starting..."
Almost six hours later, the two friends were still there in front of the TV. Peter was trying to unlock Lucario, his favorite character of the game, and Jim was doing his best to support him... with words, obviously.
"Come on, Peter, don't give up... we're so close," Jim said.
"You mean... *I* am close... this is *my* game you know" Peter said, maximum concentration.
And finally, twenty minutes later, Lucario was finally unlocked, and ready to be used. Peter stood up, and he kissed his right hand. "Oh, yeah... I'm the best!" he said.
Jim sighed. "I guess many people managed to unlock him faster than you."
Peter snored. "Oh, whatever, now it's unlocked, that's all that matters." Peter looked at his watch. "Well, time to take a break, my eyes hurt."
Jim stood up. "Can I play?"
Peter laughed. "Are you crazy? The console can't take it anymore. It will probably blow up as soon as you start playing."
Jim sighed. "Of course... damn."
Peter patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, tomorrow I will let you play, I promise."
Jim smiled. "Okay... thanks buddy."
Peter went to the fridge and took out two beers. "By the way... don't call me buddy," he said.
While giving Jim the beer, Peter noticed something on his right hand, something that looked like...black fur. That was strange, but Peter decided to ignore it...there was nothing to worry about...at least, not yet.
That night, Peter had a dream.
He was standing in the middle of a room with a giant mirror in front of him. He could see the human Peter, smiling at him. But when he looked at his hands... he realized, that the mirror was lying. His hands had only three fingers and a thumb each, and there was black fur on them. And there was also a sharp white spike on the back of his hand.
Confused and scared, Peter punched the mirror, which shattered in front of him, and the fragments felt on the floor, slowly starting to reflect his true self...
When Peter woke up, he was sweating. The dream scared him... it looked incredibly real.
"This is not possible... it's just a dream," Peter said to himself, while standing up.
He walked into the kitchen and drank a few glasses of water. After that, he returned to his bedroom and he crawled under the sheets.
He didn't notice that his eyes had changed color...
The following morning, the sound of the doorbell brought Peter back to the real world. "I'm coming, give me a second!" Peter yelled while jumping off the bed and grabbing his clothes.
He quickly went to the front door, and he opened it. Obviously, it was Jim.
"Jim? it's six in the morning?" Peter said.
Jim laughed. "Dude... it's two in the afternoon... check your clock"
Peter yawned. "Really? Well... I was sleeping."
"Definitely. You played Brawl too much, that's why. Today it's my turn!" Jim said, quickly running inside.
Peter sighed. "Maybe he's right..." he said, recalling the strange dream from the previous night.
Peter went in the living room, where Jim was already starting the game. He decided to eat something, while looking at him playing Brawl. It was not the most interesting thing to do, but he had nothing better to do anyway.
He started cooking some eggs with orange juice and bacon. While cooking, he noticed that the black fur was still growing on the back of his hand. And there was something else, something that looked like an old wound...a white circle, with no fur on it.
"The dream..." Peter said, both confused and worried. "Coincidences... these kinds of things don't happen in real life... Time to wake up, Peter... time to..."
"Who are you talking to?" Jim asked, pausing the game.
Peter turned around. "I was just..."
"Peter! What the hell happened to your eyes?!" Jim almost yelled.
Peter used a spoon to look at himself. Jim was right, something *had* happened to his eyes. They were red. And he also noticed that the black fur was growing on his face too.
Jim looked at the friend. "Peter, what's going on?"
Peter looked at his hands. He was trembling. "I... I don't know... I'm...changing"
That was it. Whatever magic was transforming Peter's body reacted to his words, and the full power of the transformation spell was unleashed.
With a loud crack, two sharp spines grew where the white wounds were. The fur started to grow even faster than before and Peter's entire body started to hurt.
"Peter... what..." Jim tried to say, unable to look away.
Peter couldn't talk. He was too shocked. He looked at his middle fingers, which vanished into thin air, and the other fingers, quickly changing position according to the new structure.
With another loud crack, Peter's shoulders became larger, and the black fur covered them as well.
A shiny whitish-yellow fur started to grow on his chest, and at the same time, with yet another loud crack, a big white spine grew from his chest.
His legs became larger, and blue and black fur covered them. It was like the fur was becoming some sort of... cloth. His feet drastically changed. Two toes vanished, just like the middle fingers of his hands. The black fur covered them, and then they became larger.
One last thing was left... Peter's head... the final part of the transformation.
His nose lengthened, transforming Peter's face into a muzzle. Black and blue fur grew on his new muzzle, creating the trademark Lucario mask. His ears became pointed, and they grew larger... covered by blue fur. And finally, his hair fell off... the transformation was complete.
Peter's clothes fell on the floor. In that moment, Jim was standing in front of a real-life Lucario... something that had to be seen to be believed.
Jim stepped forward. "Peter
is that... you?" he asked.
Surprisingly, Peter smiled. "Yes... it's me."
Jim was confused. "Are you... okay?"
"Yes..." Peter said happily. "To be honest...this is the best moment of my life!"
Jim stepped back. "Wait a second... you just transformed into a Lucario, a creature that exists only in people's fantasies... and now you are telling me that you are happy?"
Peter grabbed Jim's arm. "Yes... I like this body... it makes me feel... powerful. This body goes beyond the human limits, I feel like I can do whatever I want... I feel... free!"
"...really?" Jim asked, starting to get interested.
Peter raised his paw. "Just watch."
A blue sphere of psychic power appeared over his paw. Jim stepped back, both amazed and scared. Peter quickly made the sphere disappear.
"Is this enough for you? Or do you want me to kick something?" Peter asked.
"No... that's okay... now that you showed me that... I... I want to try this too... how can I transform?" Jim asked, strangely euphoric.
"Well..." Peter looked around. He quickly spotted the Brawl CD case on the table. "I guess...that the game transformed me... because I played it so much,"
Jim gulped. "That store sells transformation copies of Brawl?"
Peter sighed. "Actually... I didn't buy it from a shop... I bought him from a guy on DeviantArt... he said he didn't like the game and he wanted to sell it,"
Jim raised his eyebrow. "And who is it?"
Peter turned around. "His name... is..."
